Sergio Puig Elected Co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of International Economic Law

University of Arizona Law Professor and Director of the International Trade and Business Law Program Sergio Puig has been elected as co-editor in chief of the Journal of International Economic Law (JIEL)the leading intellectual publication in the field of international economic law.  

The JIEL publishes thoughtful and scholarly manuscripts from scholars, government officials, legal professionals, and others on a broad range of subjects related to international economic law. Members of the editorial board are world class scholars in areas of international investment, trade, finance, tax, intellectual property and business law. 

“I’m incredibly honored to be appointed to this position and look forward to working together with my co-editors in chief, who are excellent colleagues and remarkable scholars,” said Puig. “Together we will work hard to maintain the commitment to excellence of the journal and of its editorial home, Oxford University Press.” 

Puig will serve as co-editor in chief from 2021 to 2025 with Kathleen Claussen from the University of Miami School of Law and Michael Waibel from the University of Vienna. 

“We will take JIEL’s helm from Chris Brummer and Joost Pauwelyn, who have done an extraordinary job,” said Puig.    

Professor Puig joined Arizona Law in 2014 after a VAP at Stanford Law School and many years in practice in both Mexico City and Washington DC. His main academic interests include topics related to international trade and investment law, international arbitration and litigationinternational courts and tribunals, law and society in Latin-America, international indigenous rights and law, and climate justice. Puig also sits as an arbitrator in one of the largest investment disputes brought under the NAFTA, is a member of the Expert Committee for Mexico’s Legal and Constitutional Reform Regarding Indigenous Peoples’ Rights and regularly advises governments and other organizations on international law issues.
