General Information
IOTA’s second mega-conference will take place in Volos, Greece in January 2023. The working days are January 11-14, with the 10th reserved for international arrivals and 15th for the Sunday Divine Liturgy and a pilgrimage to the Meteora monasteries. Over 300 speakers from several dozen countries are expected to participate. The overarching theme of the conference is “Mission and the Orthodox Church”. To participate in the conference follow these simple steps:
1. Membership: Conference participation is open to current IOTA members only. Membership is open to Orthodox scholars, clergy, professionals, lay leaders, students, and all interested in Orthodox Christian studies. Before you register, become an IOTA member or renew your annual membership on this page.
2. Registration: Regular registration will be available until January 10. Your registration fee covers approximately 20% of all conference expenses. The rest is covered by our generous host, Volos Academy for Theological Studies, major supporters, and co-laborers. Register for the conference on this page. Space is limited. Register early.
3. Housing: Reserve a discounted hotel room by contacting the hotel managers listed on this page. Hotel space is limited. Make your room reservations early.
4. Excursions: Conference participants are invited to reserve tickets for two excursions: Half-Day Excursion to the village of Makrinitsa on Mount Pelion (January 11, 2023) and Full-day Pilgrimage to the Meteora Monasteries (January 15, 2023). 5. Lunchtime Literary Discussion: Conference participants are invited to a discussion of Alexandros Papadiamandis’s charming 1892 short story, “Fey Folk,” on Friday, January 13, 13:00-15:00 at “Xasomeri,” a lovely restaurant in walking distance of the conference.
