Christmas greetings

Dear colleagues,

we wish you all a very happy holiday season, time to relax and a smooth start into the year 2023 which hopefully will allow you to successfully realise as many ideas as possible.

We thank you very much for readily venturing on the VDS PhaNuSpo endeavours and for your input and active participation that tremendously have helped  us to shape our doc school to meet the various expectations and goals. All of this was only possible through the outstanding commitment of everyone.

We are looking forward to seeing our doc school further to improve during the next year and to engaging with you in a vivid mutual exchange.

The PhaNuSpo travel grant & mobility grant aim to enhance scientific reputation, career development and networking of PhD candidates.

• Travel grant: on a regular basis, at least 2 months in advance
• Mobility grant: deadlines on 15 January, 15 April, 15 July and 15 October
• No applications in retrospect

Finally, the Intranet is online: lots of information that e.g. cannot get published on PhaNuSpo Homepages such corporate design templates (posters, PPT presentation and Expose template for public presentation, or application forms). In near future the Intranet shall also serve as a virtual meeting room for self-imitated initiatives and exchange by PhD students.

In case you cannot access: please logon with your univie userID once at https://wiki.univie.ac.at and email PhaNuSpo coordinator afterwards, so that we can grant access.

Conflict management & resolution, psychological assistance

PhaNuSpo takes the issue of conflict management seriously and offers support to all students who need it. If conflicts arise during your PhD studies that require outside assistance to solve, please do not hesitate to contact the doctoral school’s executive manager (isolde.prommer@univie.ac.at or phone ext. 50030) OR student representative(s) (studreps.phanuspo@univie.ac.at) OR any other member of the steering team directly.

The executive manager, student representatives and steering committee serve as the central points for PhDs and PIs and we strive to provide offers and services tailored to your needs. Therefore, your opinion is very important to us! We would be pleased to receive your feedback on the workshops/events/services offered and as well as your suggestions for improvements. We do our bests to consider your feedbacks and also complaints during planning. First Christmas party

The first PhaNuSpo Christmas/ end-of-year celebration took place on 12 December 2022 at the Sky Lounge of the University o Vienna. Many thanks to everybody for the enjoyable event and good spirit.

We are very much looking forward to many more events.

Impressions

First Annual Retreat

We are excited that 45 PhD-students and 13 supervisors/ principal investigators participated in our first annual retreat. At this occasion we also had the opportunity to meet and exchange with our scientific advisory board members, Christophe Matthys, representing nutritional sciences (Ass. Prof. at KU Leuven, Belgium) and Achim Schmidtko, representing pharmaceutical sciences (Prof. at the Goethe Universität, Frankfurt am Main, Germany).

The retreat has been full of interesting talks and poster presentations, fruitful discussions, and enhanced the interdisciplinary exchange across disciplines and across PhDs and PIs.
