Karl-Heinz Wagner coordinates the EU project Shift2Health

 

This new EU funded project seeks to gain new insights into behavioural and physiological underpinnings that make shift workers overweight and obese; spearheaded by the University of Vienna under the lead of Prof. Karl-Heinz-Wagner, Department of Nutritional Sciences.

Microplastics and Human Health

 

The research team led by Prof. Verena Pichler (Division of Pharmaceutical Chemistry) was visited by German forensic biologist Mark Benecke to talk about microplastic and how to investigate its effects on human health.

PhaNuSpo: Are you interested in starting a PhD Club or organising a Symposium?

 

The VDS PhaNuSpo aims at increasing the interaction between doctoral students within and across departments. Thus, it supports the establishment of PhD Clubs or PhD organised symposia.

 

If you are interested, please send us a short description of the thematic area and, ideally, name a few colleagues who would be interested in joining.

 

If you interested in co-organising and in participating in the planned PhaNuSpo Podcast, please let us know.

Center for Doctoral Studies: PhD Café

 

The PhD Café is an initiative for PhD students in all fields at the University of Vienna. Doctoral candidates can exchange views on the challenges a new country/town/university can present, meet colleagues, extend their network or just have a nice evening with other PhD students.

The PhaNuSpo travel grant & mobility grant aim to enhance scientific reputation, career development and networking of PhD candidates.

  • Travel grant: on a regular basis, at least 2 months in advance
  • Mobility grant: deadlines on 15 January, 15 April, 15 July and 15 October
  • No applications in retrospect

University of Vienna: Summer School on Drug Design (SSDD23)

 

The summer school especially focuses on students and professionals who have a clear interest in learning the basics as well as latest developments in Pharmacoinformatics. Organised by the Pharmacoinformatics Research Group

Circle U. Summer School “Rethinking Global Health", Université Paris Cité

 

Got two weeks to spare this summer to travel to Paris, study interesting topics in an interdisciplinary setting and meet likeminded people from across Europe? The Summer School is open to students from all disciplinary fields and participation is free of charge.

 

Inter Circle.U Prize for Inter- and Transdisciplinary Research (ICUP)

 

The ICUP is designed to highlight the best examples of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research from all academic disciplines at Circle U. universities and is awarded annually to three scholars and/or research teams.

 

Open Call: CENTRAL Joint Workshops


Through this program, scientists from all five participating universities will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues, discuss joint research projects and prepare external funding applications. The joint workshops can take place at any participating institution.

Eligible for application: Senior PostDocs, but each project team has to include at least one PhD-student

 


TRANSFERABLE SKILLS TRAININGS


University-wide training programme: Digital Entrepreneurship Innovation Lab 2023

The digital ilab programme provides technical and entrepreneurial training to create digital tech ventures. There is no need to already have a team or idea, people from all discipline are welcome to apply. The best teams will have a chance to receive 4-month financial support to bring their ideas to reality.

 

University-wide training programme: Biomedical entrepreneurship innovation lab (Biomed ilab)

 

The Biomed ilab is a programme to support the development of scientists-entrepreneurs who work on technologies that might have an impact in the biomedical industry. It consists of two phases: a training programme and a development phase where one team will get 40k€ pre-seed funding. For details, please see the presentation.

The biomed ilab will be presented at the “Entrepreneurship night” on 6th of March, 18:00 pm, main university building.  There will be a table where you can ask info, and it will be presented in the short presentation session in the main hall.

Circle U. Partner Universities have opened several online trainings on transversal issues for early career researchers. All trainings are free of charge. Upcoming events include sessions on:

Earthquake in Turkey and Syria

 

We were deeply saddened by the news of the devastating earthquake that have claimed thousands of lives in Turkey and Syria. The doc school DSHSC has assembled a non-exhaustive list of organisations which assist those affected by the earthquake. Any donation matters.
