Herzlich willkommen zur fünften Ausgabe unseres Newsletters!
Als zertifizierte, nationale Forschungsinfrastruktur für die sozialwissenschaftliche Community in Österreich machen wir Forschungsdaten zugänglich und nutzbar. Wir arbeiten in Wien, Graz, Linz und jetzt auch in Innsbruck.
Diesen neuen AUSSDA-Standort möchten wir in diesem Newsletter genauer vorstellen.
Außerdem präsentieren wir Ihnen einige neue Datensätze aus unserem Archiv.
AUSSDA intern
Seit 2021 ist die Universität Innsbruck – neben den Universitäten Graz, Linz und Wien – einer der vier AUSSDA-Standorte. Dort sind wir an der Fakultät für Soziale und Politische Wissenschaften, der Fakultät für Volkwirtschaft und Statistik und dem Forschungsschwerpunkt Economy, Politics & Society“ (EPoS) angesiedelt.
Der Standort Innsbruck ist für die Datenakquise in Tirol und Vorarlberg verantwortlich und bietet ab 2022 auch Beratung und Schulungen zu sozialwissenschaftlichem Forschungsdatenmanagement (RDM) an.
Die Universität Innsbruck legt ihren Schwerpunkt innerhalb von AUSSDA vor allem auf Text- und Experimentaldaten und möchte zudem das Thema „qualitative Daten und Open Science“ vorantreiben. In einem ersten Schritt wurde dazu mit Brian Nosek, dem Mitgründer und Geschäftsführer des „Center of Open Science“, einer der führenden internationalen Proponenten zum Thema Open Science bzw. Open Data für einen Vortrag gewonnen – einen Nachbericht dazu lesen Sie hier.
In den kommenden Monaten sind weitere Veranstaltungen geplant, um diese Thematik stärker im Bewusstsein von Forschenden an der Universität Innsbruck und darüber hinaus zu verankern. Nach der Mitveranstaltung der ECPR House Lecture zur Replikation in den Sozialwissenschaften am 10. Februar 2022 planen wir eine Serie an Veranstaltungen zu Open Science, direkt am Standort SOWI.
Schwerpunktprojekte der kommenden Monate werden aus wissenschaftlicher Sicht vor allem das FWF-finanzierte Projekt „Communicating the COVID-19 Crisis. A Comparative Analysis of Crisis Communication by Governments and Heads of State” sein, im Zuge dessen Transkripte der Regierungs-Pressekonferenzen von 17 OECD-Staaten während der Corona-Pandemie gesammelt und ausgewertet werden. Darüber hinaus wird ein detaillierter Datensatz zu Umweltstandards, Arbeitsstandards, Menschenrechten und Sicherheitsaspekten in präferentiellen Freihandelsabkommen, welche zwischen 1954 und 2020 unterzeichnet wurden, veröffentlicht.
Aus infrastruktureller Sicht steht das institutionelle Repositorium der Universität Innsbruck, das derzeit im Rahmen des Projektes FAIR Data Austria entwickelt wird und eine direkte Anbindung an AUSSDA erhalten soll, im Fokus. Es befindet sich ab März im „Friendly User Betrieb“.

Save the date: SSHOC Final Conference am 6. und 7. April
Unser Horizon 2020 Projekt SSHOC – Social Sciences & Humanities Open Cloud, im Rahmen dessen der sozial- und geisteswissenschaftliche Bereich der European Open Science Cloud verwirklicht wird, endet im April. Zum Abschluss findet am 6. und 7. April 2022 eine Final Conference statt, auf der Projektergebnisse vorgestellt und User Stories aus der Community präsentiert werden – vor Ort in Brüssel sowie online. Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an ein breites Publikum, von Forschungsinfrastrukturen über Forschende und Bibliotheken bis hin zu Vertreter*innen aus Industrie und Politik. AUSSDA Newsletter No 5
Welcome to the fifth issue of the AUSSDA newsletter!
As a certified, national research infrastructure for the social science community in Austria, we make research data accessible and reusable. We work in Vienna, Graz, Linz and now also in Innsbruck. We would like to introduce this new AUSSDA location in more detail in this newsletter. In addition, we present some new datasets from our archive.
Inside AUSSDA
Since 2021, the University of Innsbruck – along with the Universities of Graz, Linz and Vienna – has been one of the four AUSSDA locations. The Innsbruck activities are located at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, the Faculty of Economics and Statistics and the research area Economy, Politics & Society" (EPoS).
The team in Innsbruck is responsible for data acquisition in Tyrol and Vorarlberg and will also offer consultation and training regarding research data management (RDM) in the social sciences via a central support centre from 2022.
Within AUSSDA, the University of Innsbruck focuses primarily on text and experimental data and also wants to promote the topic of "qualitative data and Open Science". As a first step, Innsbruck won over Brian Nosek, co-founder and managing director of the Center of Open Science and one of the leading international proponents of Open Science and Open Data, for a keynote lecture. In the coming months, further events are planned to raise awareness for this topic among researchers at the University of Innsbruck and beyond. In addition to co-organising the ECPR House Lecture on replication in the social sciences on 10 February 2022, a series of events on Open Science is planned, which will take place directly at the SOWI site.
From a scientific point of view, the main projects in the coming months will be the FWF-funded project "Communicating the COVID-19 Crisis. A Comparative Analysis of Crisis Communication by Governments and Heads of State". Within this project, researchers from the University of Innsbruck are collecting and analysing transcripts of the government press conferences of 17 OECD countries during the Corona pandemic. In addition, a detailed dataset on environmental standards, labour standards, human rights and security aspects in preferential free trade agreements signed between 1954 and 2020 will be published.
As far as research infrastructure is concerned, the focus is on the institutional repository of the University of Innsbruck, which is currently being developed as part of the FAIR Data Austria project and will be directly connected to AUSSDA. It will be in "Friendly User Operation" as of March.

Save the date: SSHOC Final Conference on 6 and 7 April
Our Horizon 2020 project SSHOC - Social Sciences & Humanities Open Cloud, which develops the social sciences and humanities part of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), will end in April. A final conference will be held on 6th and 7th April 2022 to present project results and user stories from the community – both on site in Brussels and online. The event is aimed at a broad audience, from research infrastructures, researchers and libraries to representatives from industry and politics. Want to learn more or register?
