Dear students of the University of Vienna!
The year is drawing to a close and for us students there were numerous changes that we had to cope with, and many changes are still pending. Unfortunately, there are many negative developments which we as student representatives will continue to fight against, above all, of course, the planned UG amendment. Here is a summary of the most important points of our work:
UG-Novelle: The turquoise-green federal government is currently planning to amend the University Act, the study law that regulates our everyday life at all Austrian universities. Above all, the announced minimum performance is unacceptable to us if students who do not earn at least 24 ECTS credits in the first four semesters are to be exmatriculated in future. In addition, the examination dates offered are to be reduced from three to two and the Senates, the only democratic governing body at universities, are to be deprived of their powers.
From our point of view, it is absolutely incomprehensible why this amendment was not used as an opportunity to adapt studies to today's realities of life. Instead, the Federal Government is planning policies on the back of the students, making university admissions more socially selective and increasing the pressure to perform. These are the wrong measures at the wrong time.
We do not want to just stand by and watch and have therefore planned a demonstration against the UG-Novelle on Saturday, 12 December. It will start at 15:00 in courtyard 1 of the campus at the old AKH. Take your friends with you and come to protest loudly against this deterioration! (Don't forget your mouth and nose protection and keep your distance, of course!) Click here for the Facebook event
Study law: The study law part of the statutes of the University of Vienna was also recently amended. These changes affect all study programmes at the University of Vienna - we have summarised the changes again here on our website.
We are looking for authors and illustrators! For our magazine Zeitgenossin we currently have a Call for Papers and a Call for Comic, Photos and Illustrations. Our Frauen*Forscherin is also looking for contributions. If you are interested then just get in touch!
German courses: In March our popular German courses will start again. All information and registration can be found here.
Trip to Israel: Next year, the Jewish Austrian Students' Union (JöH) will travel to Israel together in August and will also award some places to students who apply. You can find all information here.
Finally, we would like to draw your attention to a study on stress conducted by the University of Vienna and the Department for Accessibility of the ÖH-Bundesvertetung and ask you to participate.
We wish you nice public holidays and a hopefully better year 2021!
Best regards
Your ÖH Uni Wien
