Umfragedaten entdecken & neue Erkenntnisse zu Gesundheit und Ungleichheit in Europa
Nützliche Tools für Sozialforschende hat das Projekt Infra4NextGen entwickelt:
Im Inventory of Survey Questions können Fragen aus verschiedenen europaweiten Erhebungsprogrammen wie European Social Survey (ESS), Gender & Generations Programme (GGP), Eurobarometer oder European Values Study (EVS) nach Stichworten durchsucht und auf einen Klick gefunden werden.
Drei brandneue Data Summaries fassen aktuelle Erkenntnisse aus ebendiesen Umfragen zu den Themen Digital Divide, Health and Wellbeing und Inequalities in Europa zusammen.
Außerdem gibt es wieder spannende Trainingsangebote:
- Noch diese Woche einen zweitägigen Online-Workshop: Exploring social trust: Analysing cross-country and generational trends am Donnerstag, 2. Oktober und Freitag, 3. Oktober 2025, jeweils von 9 bis 12 Uhr
- Außerdem ein Webinar im November, das vermittelt, wie Sozialwissenschaft stärker in die Gesellschaft getragen werden kann: Bridging the gap: How to connect social research with the public and policymakers am Dienstag, 18. November, von 11 bis 12:30 Uhr.

Daten selbst archivieren – der AUSSDA Self Deposit Service

Games, Gelato, Enthusiasmus – das Open Science Festival an der Universität Wien
Das Open Science Festival feierte dieses Jahr seine Premiere in Österreich: Am 8. und 9. September 2025 kamen Open Science Enthusiast*innen auf dem Campus der Universität Wien für inspirierende Keynotes und Expert*innenrunden, spielerische Aktivitäten wie Quizzes und eine Schnitzeljagd und praktische Workshops zusammen. Wir von AUSSDA waren dort gemeinsam mit Kolleg*innen der Universität Wien mit mehreren Workshops vertreten, die Open Science-Prinzipien anhand eines konkreten Forschungsprojekts vermittelten und Studierende unterstützten, bestehende Forschungsdaten für ihre Abschlussarbeiten zu nutzen. Der Enthusiasmus der Festivalbesucher*innen wurde mit gratis Eis belohnt, gesponsert von AUSSDA, denn wir finden: Sharing is caring – nicht nur bei Daten, auch beim Eis!
Und weil der Bedarf für Erfahrungsaustausch weiter besteht, gibt es ein Follow-Up-Event zum Festival: Am 13. Oktober werden zwei Online-Sessions zu einer nachhaltigeren Forschungskultur und Tipps zu Herausforderungen in Open Science angeboten. Das Beste daran: Alle sind herzlich eingeladen, an den Sessions teilzunehmen, unabhängig davon, ob sie das Festival besucht haben oder nicht. DH2025: Ethische Fragen in den Digital Humanities
Wie können Forschungsinfrastrukturen wie CESSDA ihre Communities in ethischen Fragen unterstützen? Otto Bodi-Fernandez (Universität Graz) hat darüber im Rahmen eines Workshops bei der jährlichen Konferenz der Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations (ADHO) mit Vertreter*innen anderer Forschungsinfrastrukturen diskutiert und ethische Prinzipien in Forschung und Datenarchivierung aufgezeigt. Die DH2025 Konferenz fand vom 14. bis 18. Juli in Lissabon statt.

Discover survey data and gain new insights into health and inequality in Europe
The Infra4NextGen project has developed useful tools for researchers in the social sciences: With the Inventory of Survey Questions, users can search Europe-wide survey programs, such as the European Social Survey (ESS), the Gender & Generations Programme (GGP), the Eurobarometer, and the European Values Study (EVS), by keyword to find suitable questions with a single click.
Three brand new data summaries present the latest findings from these surveys on the topics of the digital divide, health and well-being, and inequalities in Europe.
The project also offers exciting training opportunities.
- A two-day online workshop happening this week: Exploring Social Trust: Analyzing Cross-Country and Generational Trends on Thursday, October 2, and Friday, October 3, 2025, from 9 AM to 12 PM CEST.
- In addition, a webinar in November will showcase how social science can better reach and benefit the public and policymakers: Bridging the Gap: Connecting Social Research with the Public and Policymakers on Tuesday, November 18, from 11 AM to 12:30 PM CEST.

The AUSSDA Self Deposit Service – publish your data yourself
Would you like to quickly and securely archive quantitative social science data with AUSSDA? After receiving training from our team, you can use the AUSSDA Self Deposit Service to make your data available in the AUSSDA Dataverse. This saves you time and allows you to benefit from the advantages of archiving research data in a professional repository. You will meet funding requirements, ensure your data's long-term availability, and enable its reuse. Our revised Self Deposit Manual comprehensively guides you through the process with a number of screenshots and checkboxes.

Insights, Ice Cream, Inspiration: Vienna celebrated its first Open Science Festival
This year, the Open Science Festival celebrated its premiere in Austria. On September 8 and 9, 2025, Open Science enthusiasts gathered on the campus of the University of Vienna for inspiring keynotes and expert panels, entertaining activities such as quizzes and a scavenger hunt, and practical workshops. AUSSDA and colleagues from the University of Vienna offered two workshops: One made Open Science principles come to life, encouraging participants to apply them to a concrete research project. The other showcased how students can reuse existing research data for their theses. To show our appreciation for the festival visitors' enthusiasm, AUSSDA sponsored free ice cream for everyone who attended the festival. After all, sharing is caring - that goes for both data and ice cream!
To keep the momentum going, a follow-up event to the festival will take place on 13 October. Two online sessions focus on a more sustainable research culture and provide tips for overcoming challenges in Open Science. The best thing is: The sessions are open to everyone, whether you attended the festival or not. Find all information and register on the festival website.
DH2025: Ethical Issues in the Digital Humanities
How can research infrastructures such as CESSDA support their communities with questions of research integrity? During a workshop at the annual conference of the Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations (ADHO), Otto Bodi-Fernandez (University of Graz) discussed this topic with representatives of other research infrastructures and outlined ethical principles in research and data archiving from a social science perspective. The DH2025 conference took place in Lisbon from July 14 to 18.
